Our Story

Ou​r story​ began on a golden evening in the office of Dr. Sushil Kumar Gupta. Dr. Geetendra Sharma and Dr. Hitesh J. Bhatt., his friends and medico legal experts, had joined him for a cup of coffee. An idea, the brain child of Dr. Nishant when discussed with Dr. Hitesh and Dr. Geetendra now became a vigorous exchange of ideas. The trio knew how doctors & medical institutions, barely aware of their legal rights, were extremely vulnerable to lawsuits. An action was imperative. A reliable resource that could prov​ide medical fraternity with expert legal advice while protecting their best interest . Soon enough, a discussion on the prevailing medico legal cases in India ensued. The surge in cases was alarming. Yet, more alarming was the lack of seasoned medicolegal professionals, capable of defending the healthcare staff. To their dismay, the service providers were largely insurance brokers, untrained and inexperienced about the legal framework surrounding healthcare.

What started off as a conversation now became a vigorous exchange of ideas. The trio knew how doctors & medical institutions, barely aware of their legal rights, were extremely vulnerable to lawsuits. An action was imperative. A reliable resource that could provide medical fraternity with expert legal advice while protecting their best interest.

This sparked the inception of Panacea – India’s first speciality medico legal consultancy firm with premier lawyers, doctors and medicolegal experts, successfully safeguarding medical workers from legal risks.

Dr Sushil Kumar Gupta is a distinguished legal practitioner with rich medical expertise and extensive experience as an investigative officer in CBI. For the last 19 years, he holds an excellent reputation as an advocate, during which he has handled matters of various IAS Officers, President Nursing Council, Vice Chairman Bar Council, representing co-accused in Satyender Jain Case, Cricket Bookies Case of Enforcement Directorate, and other sensitive cases. Entrusted for his ability to effectively handle matters pertaining to medical negligence, mediclaim policy and health sector issues, Mr. Gupta is appointed on the panel of several insurance companies, general insurance companies and banks such as New India Assurance Company, National Insurance Company Limited, United India Insurance Company, Gas Authority of India Limited, National Minorities Development Financial Corporation, Allahabad Bank, etc. His diverse background, vociferous reading, and unique combination of skills brings a distinct perspective to every task he undertakes, strongly impacting his current practice in the field of Criminal Law, particularly white-collar crimes.

Adv. (Dr.) Hitesh J. Bhatt is an established Medicolegal Consultant, renowned Author and Lifetime Member of Film Writers Association, Mumbai. He is one of the few doctor who had worked as consultant obstetrician for 20 years and then renounced medical council to get enrolled as an advocate with Bar council of maharashtra and Goa. Over an illustrious career spanning 23 years, he has held key leadership roles, including Chairperson, Ethics and Medicolegal Committee- FOGSI (2013-16), and office bearer for IMA , AMC, MOGS, and AFG . Currently, he is a Partner in ‘B & S  Medicolegal  Consultancies’, a legal firm, where he lends his expertise to healthcare professionals or mitigating and handling legal complexities while optimizing patient care. His extensive experience has made him a trusted Medicolegal Consultant to over 250 prestigious hospitals across India, including many corporate hospitals, multispecialty hospitals and fertility centres. He had the honour of being a National Faculty at many state and national conferences and has delivered more than 1,800 talks across on Medicolegal subjects like “Medical Negligence, consent, medical documents, death on table, violence against Hosptial etc.” Few of the books co-authored by him include ‘Consents in Ob. & Gyn.’, ‘Laws a doctor must know’, MTP ACT made easy.

 

Dr. Geetendra Sharma

Medical Practitioner & Medico legal Consultant

Dr. Geetendra Sharma is a practising Gynaecologist and Obstetrician since more than three decades, pioneering medical ethics and facilitating best treatment for his patients. A gold medallist and law topper from Gujarat University, he is also a Medicolegal Consultant to over 225 hospitals across India. His vast knowledge and profound wisdom has enabled him to hold prestigious positions and memberships across multiple forums in the past. Some of these include Vice President, FOGSI (2022-23), Chairperson, Ethics & Medicolegal Committee- FOGSI (2017-2019), President, AOGS (2016-17), and Hon. Joint Secretary, SOGOG (2017-19). He was also vested with the responsibility to host AICOG in 2017. He has delivered more than 1,700 lectures and 10 orations on diverse topics at different locations in India. To spread awareness regarding the medicolegal system in India and help doctors pre-empt and prevent legal complications, Dr. Sharma has authored many books including ‘Law in Ob. & Gyn. practice’, ‘Consents in Ob. & Gyn.’ and ‘Laws a doctor must know’

An expert Prosthodontist and Oral Impantologist, Dr. Nishant Tyagi is the Head and Director of Dental Department at one of the leading hospitals in Delhi NCR, crafting innovative strategies and treatment plans to enhance smile aesthetics and oral functionality for patients. Prior to this, he led the dental department at various other hospitals in Delhi NCR. Dr. Nishant is also the Founder and Director of Matrika Hospital for women and has played an instrumental role in managing the facility for over 5 years. During his 15+ years of practice, he has pioneered patient satisfaction, driven by positive and transformative outcomes. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Dental Surgery with specialization in Prosthodontics and Oral Implantology.
